Connect Codex to your design library

Add the save.design MCP server to Codex and it can search everything you saved, read your boards, browse a curated library of real web design and build new boards for you. You connect it with a few lines of config.

Codex's own guide: MCP in Codex

What Codex can do with it

  • Search your saves

Find saved websites, sections, images, files and pages by describing them, ranked across your workspaces.

  • Open anything

Read a page's markdown, a file's contents, or look at the image itself rather than a filename.

  • Read your boards

Get a whole board as an outline: frames, cards, your notes and the arrows between them.

  • Search real web design

Search the curated Elements library, parts of real websites, by the look you describe.

  • Build boards

Lay out a new board of references, grouped into frames with labelled arrows, and hand you the link.

Prompts to try

  • “Find the pricing pages I saved last month and summarise how they handle the annual toggle.”
  • “Build a board for a calm fintech landing page: twelve references, grouped by type, colour and layout.”
  • “Look at my "Client — Arc" folder and write a one-paragraph design brief from it, then scaffold the hero section.”

Answers

How do I add an MCP server to Codex?+

Open ~/.codex/config.toml (create it if it doesn't exist). Add the snippet below and save. Run /mcp in Codex (or restart it) and authenticate. The save.design server URL is https://save.design/api/mcp.

Do I need an API key?+

No. Signing in is standard OAuth: your tool sends you to save.design, you approve the connection, and it gets a token. You can revoke it any time in Account settings → Integrations.

Can Codex change or delete my saves?+

No. It can create boards and change or remove what it added itself. Anything you made, it can only read, and nothing in the API deletes a saved item.

Which plan includes it?+

The personal MCP endpoint comes with Individual and Team membership. Access is granted per workspace.

Give Codex your taste.

Everything you saved, and a library of real web design, one MCP connection away.
